Tracy Rosenbaum

Ever since the concept of "street style" took off (especially with the thesartorialist blog), young women with connections in the fashion world like Giovanna Battaglia, Lauren Santo Domingo and Yasmin Sewell have seen their looks published and copied by a good number of fashionistas. Among the new recruits of this new tribe of "sartorialized" girls is the assistant to the (Scott Schumann) Sartorialist himself, Tracy Rosenbaum.

There are those for whom the cameras systematically start flashing as soon as they arrive for the shows. They are not actresses nor singers nor models. They work directly or indirectly in fashion and possess a particular look that has made them famous in the street style microcosm.

With her intellectual tomboy look, Rosenbaum was not necessarily a candidate to become a member of the pantheon of socialites who are always sublimely dressed and perched on their 14cm/5in heels. Her short hair and casual-not- glamorous look could easily lead one to think that she would not come across well in photos.

So it is a pleasant surprise to see this former design student who has since become Scott Schumann's assistant appear in the street style sites. (Fashion blogger) Garance Doré was one of the first to dedicate an article to her, introducing her readers to a character relatively far from the female stereotype of those appearing in the Sartorialist.

It is true that Rosenbaum made an impression with her Jean Seberg freshness, her carefully designed natural style mixing chic and masculine. More often than not wearing flats (whereas heels were until now required around the catwalks), she has gradually created a recognizable, clean, and minimalist silhouette that has been thoughtfully prepared.

She makes boyfriend jeans look smart by wearing them with moccasins, a blazer and a leather belt cleverly knotted. She also wears a denim shirt buttoned all the way up with mini shorts, or a French sailor shirt with sneakers and a trench with a turquoise necklace, or a head-to-toe Chanel look played down by her short hair and Wayfarers.

What is behind her successful style? The answer probably lies in part in her tattoo that reads, "Live, Learn, Create." This mantra perfectly evokes the bubbling energy of the Sartorialist's assistant's looks, but also the time spent learning about fashion in her favorite vintage boutiques, as well as the audacity that animates her when she puts together a look. She is definitely one to follow.
