Chloé wedge-heeled boots
06 07 2010If ever a pair of boots had their 15 minutes of fame last September, it was undoubtedly those from the Chloé fall/winter 2009-2010 collection. Between the back-orders, waiting lists and repeat invasions into the Tuileries Gardens during the Paris fashion week, these bicolor wedge-heeled boots did not go unnoticed by the fashionistas. Will it be the same story for the new Hanna MacGibbon model?

Seasons pass, and the list of "it" designers to follow is continually renewed. In 2007, everyone swore by the Balenciaga keffiyeh; in 2008, it was all about Christophe Decarnin's shoulder-padded jackets; and finally, 2009 was incontestably the year of Chloé.
It is rare for a house to succeed in keeping its place in the trend pantheon, continually inciting enthusiasm in the fashion world. Being able to offer a collection that is in perfect harmony with the moods and desires of the moment often has a lot to do with luck, which by definition is not easy to reproduce. The 2010-2011 Chloé wedges are a nice variation on the bankable model from last winter, but they run the risk of not being as sought after as their predecessors.
Despite their mountain boot trim (also seen at D&G and Rag&Bone), which gives them a soft touch, these boots do not seem to have the almost-hypnotic aura that would have made them the perfect "it" shoe in the eyes of the fashionistas.
At the start of the season, given that the new darling in the business is none other than Phoebe Philo, "Chloé maniacs" will transform into "Céline addicts". The fashionably inclined will surely prefer Céline's uncluttered 1970s boots or classically sober moccasins, both perfectly matching l'air du temps over the Chloé wedge boots with their cute little mountaineer look.
However, if your fashion libido is unaffected by the trend curve, and your honeymoon with Chloé has not yet ended, these wedges remain a perfectly viable option. In this case, the beige and wood model with its color combination is a better choice over the taupe for the upcoming season.
