Prada - Swing Sunglasses Collection
19 07 2010Recently, the series Mad Men, and its blondissima Betty Draper, has been incessantly diffusing its 50s perfume into the fashion world. After having influenced Marc Jacobs as well as Dries Van Noten, the style of Matthew Weiner's women continues to find new fans, this time in the world of Prada.

Right in line with the Prada fall/winter 2010/2011 collection, these new sunglasses are bathed in the soft retro aura that has recently come back into style.
The jazzy atmosphere of the Prada New York Swing Sunglasses Collection launch party, as well as Angela Lindvall's so Mad-Men look (she guest-starred in the ad campaign shot and filmed by Steven Meisel), gave a hint of the vintage wave that will soon be unleashing itself on our wardrobes.
Along with the 70s reminiscence spearheaded by the Céline collection, this 50s flashback will have fashionistas converted to mid-length corolla skirts and chignon/banana hairstyles. This being said, however, it is less likely that the uncompromising ensembles proposed Louis Vuitton or Prada will be seen in the streets "as is."

On the other hand, Miuccia Prada's Swing sunglasses have every chance of becoming one of the season's must-have. With their cat-eye shape and clean lines, they perfectly match the retro feel of the moment, all the while proving to be easier to wear than other headlining looks of the latest shows (seen here and there).
In other words, those picturing themselves as Betty Draper without wanting to adopt a total 50s look, will find that the Swing sunglasses are the perfect compromise between pragmatism and the (Mad Men costume designer) Janie Bryant aesthetic. Worn with styled hair, polished camel pants and a thin prune pullover, these openly retro models will compose a very up-to-date casual chic look.
The Swing Sunglasses Collection will be available starting in October in all Prada points of sale.
For the artistically inclined, Prada is holding a competition for the next Swing Sunglasses Collection heroine. For more information, visit the Prada.com website.
