Alexander Wang Shoes - 2011 Resort Collection

Barely leaving us enough time to check out the autumnal accessories, the Little Prince of New York, Alexander Wang, already has us salivating with his Resort Collection. Contrary to the pieces for the upcoming season (with their unusual ergonomic mutations), the shoes making up the cruise line are, above all, accessible without sacrificing any of their sharp modernity.

With the recent success of the resort collections, the range of products susceptible of rendering the fashionistas starry-eyed has grown considerably. These fashion intermediaries, veritable concentrations of the designer's DNA, have often turned out to be much more wearable than usual.

For his Resort 2011 Collection, Alexander Wang has put aside his experiments with pyramidal heels for a somewhat less eccentric, easily consumable look. This being said, the volumes may be more reasonable, but the attention given to the details still result in shoes that are perfectly balanced and ultra urban.

By avoiding the trap of the heeled tennis shoes, Wang succeeded in composing a high-heeled, velcro-ed low boot that has nothing to do neither with the bimbo-look nor with heeled Converses. Far from the world of the sneaker, these undeniably smart, open-toed shoes in licorice, chalk, or olive are more Balenciaga than Sergio Rossi.

Also, at a time when the de rigueur 14cm (5.5in) heels seen in the (Paris) Jardin des Tuileries during fashion week are about to mingle with kitten- and other low-altitude heels, the Wang brogues offer a more attractive alternative. With their subtly offbeat heels, cowboy-pointed toes and masculine cut, they look a lit like a little androgynous, rock-attitude jewel that should have no problem drawing the attention of Kate Lanphear.

In the end, if some of the models seem to be clones of last season, the overall clean and sexy feel emanating from this Resort collection (with its handcrafted touches of which only Alexander Wang knows the secret), comes through.
