The Seventies Look
26 07 2010The Matthew Weiner series Mad Men may seem set to influence our autumnal wardrobe, but there is another series that may prove itself just as useful (if not more so) in getting a hold on the trends of the new season: the 1970s series Charlie's Angels.

We begin with an observation: the Louis Vuitton 50s dresses, the Prada 60s ensembles, and the Dries Van Noten mid-calf skirts may very well be emblematic of the new season's retro aspirations, but they remain nonetheless difficult to transpose into our daily lives. For the more common mortals among us, the Betty Draper look will be judiciously reserved for the hip cocktail parties.
During the day, it will be easier to borrow a few style ideas from the trio formed by Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith. In other words, the 1970s - with its fall color wheel, corduroys, soft felts and large neck scarves -- will be where to go in order to adapt the Hannah MacGibbon up-to-date vocabulary.
In order to do so, rather than watch the Chloé Fall/Winter 2010-2011 show for the upteenth time on Style.com, we propose taking a little vacation and diving into the series Charlie's Angels, so much are the ensembles in perfect harmony with the 2011 l'air du temps.

Between the A-line camel skirts paired with a thin turtleneck and a string of pearls, wide-cut pants with a boyish V-neck sweater, large bow-tie blouses worn with a thin belt defining a high waist of brick-colored pants, every detail from this series deserves to be observed, noted and applied to our future wardrobes.
Next season, the grunge, rock & Co. pieces will be left in the closet in favor of a style based more on pure elegance. Finely honed cuts, quality materials and colors très Annie Hall will be de rigueur to honor a trend so well conceived that it will remain pertinent above and beyond the regulation 6 months.
