Clémence Poésy in Gossip Girl

13 08 2010

For its fourth season, the TV series Gossip Girl borrowed one of Paris' prettiest actresses, Clémence Poésy. The Upper East Side clique will be joined by the Chloé perfume icon, whose deliciously French style may overshadow that of some or her new co-stars.

Clémence Poésy & Chuck Bass - Gossip Girl

Between Natalie Portman posing for Sofia Coppola under the trees in Parc Monceau and Chuck Bass charming the former Fleur Delacour in the heart of the city, the Parisian press no longer knew where to turn last month. This was a chance for the fashionistas to get a sneak preview Serena's and her friends' wardrobe, as well as to observe Poésy's first steps in the cult series.

A little background: Poésy, who made her debut in the Harry Potter saga, approached the Gossip Girl producers about joining the very exclusive golden youth of Manhattan. Her perfect complexion, regal carriage as well as her oh-so-Parisian allure caused her to be selected immediately.

her many appearances during the Parisian fashion shows, where her studied casual bohemian look was often admired, was an indication of her ability to hold her own against Blair Weldorf and Jenny Humphrey.

Judging by the unofficial photos of the filming, Clémence Poésy seems to meet the challenge easily. Her looks as Chuck's new love interest are an intelligent mix of genres - between smart elegance, girliness and casual -perfectly illustrating the fantasy stereotype of the Parisian female.

Whether it be with a trench casually thrown over a thin skirt (paired with high heeled sandals) or a strapless mini-dress warmed up with a cozy sweater (finished off with a fashionable camel bag), Poésy appears simultaneously less dressed up than Leighton Meester and more refined than Blake Lively, giving her character a dose of natural chic lacking in her co-stars.

The only negative point: her evening ensembles may come directly from Dior or Fendi, but they are nonetheless either too sexy or not enough, creating a style that has nothing to do with the little Frenchie that Chuck Bass will be bringing back in his suitcase...

Clémence Poésy

A couple of photos that have appeared in the press, where she appears ultra relaxed in a loose t-shirt and shorts or skinny jeans and tie-dye, might provoke some questions - are these her off-screen looks? Or rather a more relaxed mode for her Gossip character?

In the second case, these last photos perfectly illustrate the supposed capacity of French girls to never lose anything of their allure, even when they try less sophisticated looks.
