Trend: Fake Fur

18 08 2010

This season, Karl Lagerfeld, having decided to unroll kilometers of fake fur in all directions, sets the tone for extravagant fashion. From an abominable snowman costume to high-heeled moon boots to trapeze skirts, everything was covered with a synthetic furry coat, resulting in an over-the-top look with a sense of humor.

Trend: fake fur

If at first glance, the Chanel show strongly resembled a parody of an ecological seminar for fashionistas looking to relieve their consciences, it nevertheless emphasized one of the headlining trends of the season: the unapologetic use of fake fur. This material may still have a cheap image, but its sudden blessing by the Kaiser has encouraged other houses to treat it with humor.

It is no longer a question of trying to subtly incorporate a piece of fur hoping that it will pass as real mink; fake fur is now being used in significant quantities in such a way that it makes those who fall for it look like adorable, 100% synthetic teddy bears.

Under the impulse of Unique (Topshop's designer line), we find ourselves surprisingly wanting a comfortable teddy bear coat, much funkier and politically correct than any other rabbit coat. As for the Miu Miu woolen ball-shaped skirts, they appear all the more chic now that their coat has nothing animal about it.

Also, it is time to throw out the little fake leopard scarf - in order to fully embrace this new trend and adopt the right dress code, it is necessary to wear it without holding back. Go for voluminous pieces, as well as playful and cozy accessories à la Chanel, all the while keeping an eye on the latest Topshop arrivals (Topshop being capable of delivering items that are simultaneously accessible and first degree).

All this being said, however, this trend with its crusader, regressive and sans complex characteristics will not last long. Given that, it would be a pity to not take advantage of it while we can to warm ourselves up à la Kate Lanphear...
