The Darla Bag by Chloé

25 08 2010

In 2010, the so-called timeless accessories, like the cornerstone of an up-to-date silhouette, are more important than ever (even more so if they give off a slightly retro feel). Cat-eye glasses, moccasins and bourgeois bags make up the minimum survival needs of the fashionistas wishing to follow the current trends.

The fashion turnover may incessantly modify the components of a trendy wardrobe, but that does not necessarily mean that the female closet is renewing itself at the same rhythm. In general, concentrating on the right accessories is sufficient to update a basic outfit.

This season, those who would like to add a touch of the "lady" sophistication seen at Prada, Chloé and Louis Vuitton to their looks - without having to invest in a calf-length full skirt or a pair of wide camel pants - can satisfy their desires by going for a bag reflecting the mood of the moment. Shunning soft materials, the oversize, loose feel and rock-and-roll details, they will prefer rigid volumes and sensible leathers.

The Céline Classic or the Hermès Birkin may still work marvelously, but the little new arrival by Hannah MacGibbon for Chloé should also get its chance to find itself on the arms of the socialites during the upcoming fashion weeks.

Seeming to come straight out of the imagination of (contemporary art connoisseur and wife of former president, Georges Pompidou) Claude Pompidou, the Darla has proven to be sufficiently simple and elegant enough to confer a good dose of chic to the kitten heels/denim/blouse trio, as well as a vintage aura that fits in perfectly with the trends.

The camel color may be highly recommended for the upcoming winter, but the bordeaux will better show how well informed your "it" knowledge is.

If the Darla is incompatible with your budget, rummage about at Urban Outfitters - or the (Paris) Saint Ouen flea markets - to find satisfying substitute.
