The Back-to-School Look
02 09 2010After the school books have been bought and the suntans begin to fade, the only question that still obsesses the young girl on the verge of starting a new school year is: how to create a back to school look that is cool, stylish, in step with the trends without overdoing it?

For the majority of junior high and high school girls, choosing their first back to school looks is of utmost importance. Given how easy it is to lose one way by overdoing it, it can be a dangerous affair. It might be a good idea to start by recalling a few elementary rules for a preppy-light dress code.
First of all, "high school/secondary school" does not necessitate a shopping spree to (Paris ultra chic concept store) Colette, or a night out at the (Paris nightspot) Baron; i.e. the idea is to appear charming, accessible, and nicely in step with the times, rather than giving the impression of dressing straight out of the pages of Jalouse.
In order to do this, we prefer an effortless look to a more sophisticated one that might give the impression of having spent hours in front of the mirror. In practice, we would recommend adding a piece that is still in the summer mood (sandals, straw bag, bohemian earrings) in order to add a breath of fresh air to the fall ensemble.
We also prefer the casual look of a pair of shorts in one of the fall colors over the girliness of a little skirt, in order to gently transition the summer wardrobe into autumn. Finally, those who would like to warm up their outfit while adding an academic polish will head back to school in a boyish blazer.
In the end, it might be a good idea to keep in mind that it is useless to show up in your Sunday best, especially when what you need is to feel at ease in your clothes. The more confident among you could attack the new year dressed in your summer looks, whereas others could take inspiration from this young girl, who seems to have completely understood the art of casual chic.
