Fur Jewelry

We may be familiar with the rabbit's foot worn as a good luck charm, but a mink necklace? Many jewelry designers have invited fur into their creations this season, giving birth to high-end jewelry that is a bit unusual to outright strange.

By deciding to position the Chanel show under the sign of the Yeti, Karl Lagerfeld opened the way to the fur trend 2010-2011 - from this moment on, fur is to be used with humor and excess.

This winter, fur will be making a fun/chic entrance into the fashion world, leaving behind the image of the Naomi Campbell coat in favor of luxury, complex-free accessories. The collections will be overflowing with furry creations of all kinds, from the opulent D&G moon boot to the Pierre Hardy mink ankle boot to the Alexander Wang hairy low boots.

Unfortunately, this fur avalanche onto the "it" shoes and bags of the moment results in pieces that often lack in subtlety. We found it difficult to find the Louboutin boots half buried under a layer of glossy fur elegant. The Marc by Marc Jacobs bags or those by Fendi, that have traded in their leather for a much trendier yet nevertheless completely unsuitable material for a hand bag, were also hard to find desirable.

What is there to say, then, about jewelry that, under the pretext of pushing the limits of originality, goes tundra, incorporating fur in with its beads and chains? Faced with the unaesthetic results of the Fenton, Bless and even Wendy Nichol designs, we must admit that when this new bling bling trend -- replacing 18 karats with mink -- has passed, we will not miss it.

In the end, we may fall for a funky fake fur Chanel accessory, but we must advise against trying the all-the-way fashion by adopting one of these new crazy talisman - they seem better suited to a curiosity shop than to the neck of the fashionista.
