The Bermuda
07 09 2010In the same vein as the kitten heel, the bermuda short (more practical than trendy) is currently raising a lot of questions. Under the pretext of offering itself as an alternative to the micro short and the straight cut skirt, the Bermuda is trying to reintegrate itself into the fashionista's dressing room.

The result of local Bermuda laws forbidding women to show their legs, the bermuda cannot claim a particularly exciting history. The fact that it was quickly made a part of the school uniform did not help matters. Today, the bermuda is associated more with boy scouts than with fashion must-haves.
This does not mean that it has not tried. During the fall/winter 2010-2011 season, the bermuda invaded a good number of collections, but that does not mean that it will be seen in the streets.
This season, under the influence of the preppy and minimalist trends, the bermuda could finally win a place in the fashionista's wardrobe. In order to do so, its casual origins should be cast aside for a new DNA infused with tailoring and student flavors.
Zara is offering a remastered version of the bermuda, higher waisted and shorter on the leg than the original model. Approaching the dimensions of shorts, it should please the young girls searching for a boyish and trendy allure.

The très chic Sofia Coppola was seen in a pair of the bermudas, matching it with elegant basics, i.e., a white shirt and licorice sandals. The Louis Vuitton guest designer thus shows that the shorts can be worn outside of school.
However, the bermuda may have gone further in 2007 by invading the fast fashion collections and winning over a fashion icon known for her faultless elegance, yet it has still not yet been unconditionally adopted. According to the Cate Blanchett example, it seems still easy to lose one's way when coming into contact with it.
As of now, those who would like to try them should choose a mid-thigh model over those cut just above the knee, and matching them with high heeled boots (it is out of the question to accentuate their passé preppy look by wearing them with this season's moccasins). Those who do not have a slender silhouette should avoid them at all costs...
