The Fashion Faux Pas of Michelle Williams
08 09 2010For the Mostra de Venise, many stars dressed to the nines for the Venetian red carpets. Although some were very nicely turned out, this was unfortunately not the case for the normally dashing Michelle Williams.

In Italy promoting her latest film, Blue Valentine, Williams chose a clothing style in the current retro trends. Until now, she has often been admired for her mini dresses that flatter her little frame so well; however, she recently seems to have become infatuated with looks that, although perfectly in fashion, do not do her justice.
Is it possible that just before turning 30, the heroine of Shutter Island has suddenly opted for an old-fashioned wardrobe? Her ensembles may come from la crème de la crème of American designers, but their vintage look smells too much of mothballs, dragging down Williams 60s cut.
As romantic as Jason Wu's outfit may be, it ages the young actress instantly; and the strange proportions of the little Marc Jacobs dress dangerously weighed down her silhouette. Known more for her well-informed fashion choices (never without a modern touch), the pretty Williams here seems to have been cannibalized by the trends to the point of forgetting the essential: always dress to your advantage.
This leads us to ask the following question: has Miss Williams been struck with that mysterious malady the attacks so many American actresses, causing them to become disoriented on the red carpets (as seen here, here, and here)? If so, we hope that she gets better soon...
