Skirt, Stella McCartney
09 09 2010Calf-brushing skirts may have taken their places this season at Dries Van Noten as well as Louis Vuitton, but that does not necessarily mean that they will be seen en masse in the streets. On the other hand, other skirts that are cut just as full but with a much shorter hemline have a much higher chance of winning over the fashionista with their retro-bourgeois look.

The Betty Draper silhouette, sublime but unsuitable for daily wear, will remain relegated to the Mad Men series. This being said, this does not mean that we have to renounce this pretty, nicely balanced silhouette created by the combination of a high waist and generous volumes, all the more so since a full skirt stopping at mid thigh renders the look more accessible. Classical by default, this model will give off a delicately ambiguous aura between preppy and pin-up.
Much more chic than the form-hugging mini skirt or the immodest micro, this style fits perfectly into the femininity of the current collections. Choosing a piece similar to the Stella McCartney model will provide beauty and elegance in complete simplicity.
This is one of the pieces that brings together a perfect cut, an fantastic fabric, and a strong design, whose presence alone is enough to bring an entire ensemble to life. Perched on 14 cm (5.5") heels, it will flatter the working girl (who will be thrilled to get away from her pencil skirts for awhile) as much as those wishing to put a twist on camel's serious aura.
This being said, a bit of freshness should be added to this skirt by having it flirt with the Nouvelle Vague ("New Wave") aesthetic, either by matching it with a navy blue pullover and a pair of leopard ballet flats, or with a bordeaux blouse.
