The long Skirt Dress Code

22 10 2010

Present in numerous fall/winter 2010-2011 collections, the long skirt has successfully come down from the catwalks to the streets, offering the fashionista a new basic to reinterpret. If we are to believe in the crème de la crème of jet setters, the long skirt could become as indispensable as a good pair of slims.

The long Skirt Dress Code

Too long to be really practical and preferring the warmth of summer to the first frost, the maxi skirt has nevertheless made a remarkable entrance into the must-have hit parade of the season, making a place for itself in the heart of the trend addict's autumnal wardrobe.

Some give it a soft rock look by wearing it with biker boots, a touch of gothic jewelry and a black leather jacket, while others prefer a more country feel by pairing it with a shearling jacket, embroidered bag and low-heeled boots. As for the Phoebe Philo fans, they give it a good dose of minimalist sportswear with a hybrid leather/padded top and a clean-lined overcoat.

As for the type of skirt to adopt, those who would like to try this new slender silhouette should choose a sober piece in a darker color and a slightly flared cut. The ultra long creations by Dries Van Noten are definitely sublime, but there are more destined to brush the parquet floors of a VIP reception than to sweep the Parisian cobblestones. For daily wear, we prefer the more basic models that we can incorporate more easily into our wardrobes.

Simultaneously more accessible than the mini and less risqué than the Mad Men petticoat, the long skirt could well become the big winner of the season.
