Blake Lively: she's got the look?
08 11 2010It sometimes happens that a style detail takes several seasons (or even over a year) to infiltrate the fashionista's wardrobe. This is the case with one of Phoebe Philo's propositions dating back to last summer -- letting the bottom of a shirt show under a skirt.

Without going so far as to compare her to Audrey Hepburn (as some have done recently in the press), it must be acknowledged that the actress Blake Lively is developing a fresh yet cultivated look. Since her beginnings in Gossip Girl, her looks have drawn the attention of the critics and fashion editors. She has also become one of those rare actresses having appeared two times on the cover of Vogue US (as seen here and here), and this in less than two years. Unsurprisingly, her public appearances are always analyzed with interest.
Recently, Lively has chosen to honor the darling designer of the moment, Phoebe Philo, by reproducing the style of one of her spring/summer 2010 looks. Regardless of the water that has passed under the bridge since then, and the other Céline collections that have made the fashionable happy, the idea of wearing a long shirt under a short skirt barely made the scene, allowing Miss Lively to maintain her propos. (It should also be noted that Philo's work has not depreciated at all over the last three seasons, and that her ideas remain very much in step with the times.)
Those who would like to add a different twist to their autumnal ensembles can take inspiration from the actress' look, without fear of appearing démodé. This being said, however, her look should not be consumed as is - her hastily knotted maxi belt and badly matched boots keep her from exploiting its total potential.
It would be better to stick to the main idea and slip a long denim shirt under an Alexander Wang skirt, or a long white shirt under a wool mini skirt with thigh highs or wool tights and heeled, laced low boots.
