Biker Shorts for Winter
26 11 2010There are those pieces that, when they show up in the fashion world, leave 99% of the fashionistas in doubt. Sometimes, however, their appearances on certain style virtuosos can lead us to question their faulty character. Such is the case of the biker short.

When Miuccia Prada and Louis Vuitton presented the biker short in their collections last summer, we thought we were experiencing a collective hallucination. How did this short, previously reserved for the Tour de France and gym class, find itself on the catwalks of two of fashion's most visible labels? Were Miuccia and Marc enjoying a private joke on a global level? Or does this bit of nylon actually possess some mysterious stylistic potential, heretofore unexplored? The question was asked, and all that remained was to wait for the verdict from the street.
A few months later, with the exceptions of a few of fashion's ardent champions, e.g., Susie Bubble, who adopted the said biker short, the majority of the fashionistas had unsurprisingly decided to pass it up.
However, it seems that this clingy Bermuda has not yet uttered its last word. Rarely seen in the streetstyle reviews of Tommy Ton during the last fashion weeks, the biker has nevertheless recently appeared on the legs of the always-inspiring Hanneli Mustaparta.
Unlike Miss Bubble's convoluted ensembles, Hanneli's look had that touch of rock-chic that could lead us to rethink our biker short boycott. She selected a 100% Topshop-ian tapestry print short, worn over a pair of black leggings, bringing a touch of masterful originality to the black that was rather successful.
Brightening up our leggings, especially now that the first cold has set in, via a pair of biker shorts with a retro graphic is not a bad idea, if they are worn as part of a serious-smart ensemble.
We should mention that the shiny nylon models or those with the Henry Holland prints should probably be avoided. We would also suggest that this mini trend is completely optional, and only those with Hanneli-like legs might want to risk it.
