Fashionary, the Fashionista's Moleskine

01 12 2010

The success of the legendary moleskine among the fashionable is still going strong, but the new version by Penter Yip may very well win over new fans. given the name "Fashionary," it was conceived to become the daily companion of the budding designer and fashion journalist.

Fashionary

The iPhone may excel in the art of rendering itself indispensable, but its "Notes" function has not yet succeeded in drawing the fashionistas away from their multiple notebooks full of vintage boutique addresses, shopping lists, brownie recipes and ideas to come back to later.

Now, those addicted to all kinds of little notebooks have a high chance of falling for Mr. Yip's Fashionary, even more so as it was developed more or less in and for the fashion world.

Fashionary

Many of us may dream of sketching a couture silhouette on a bit of paper like Alber Elbaz, but in practice, artistic outbursts of this kind are often disappointing. With the Fashionary, some of whose pages are covered with dress-up silhouettes, the risks of ending up with a Cubist sketch are considerably reduced.

Then there is the relatively complete illustrated textile lexicon that should help the apprentice designer with her sketches as well as respond to the majority of the questions of the fashion infatuated (e.g., "what is the difference between an Italian and a classic collar?")

Fashionary

Also, the 2011 version comes with numerous addresses and other useful bits of information, e.g. the fashion week calendar, measuring tables, and important e-shops.

In the end, the Fashionary, available for men and women, could be more complete, but it is a sufficiently desirable and pragmatic substitute for the classic Moleskine, especially with its numerous blank pages that Yip thought to include.
