Button-Up Shirt + Pullover = The Right Look

09 12 2010

Every time the meteorologists announce a cold spell, it becomes more and more difficult to resist bundling up in a pullover that is more cozy than trendy. However, sometimes all it takes is a simple button-up shirt underneath the soft sweater to keep the "no-look" spirits at bay.

Fashion may be an eternal rebirthing process (i.e., each season, it brings back a piece that has long since been considered outdated), but it also has a wonderful way of regularly throwing everything back in the mix in order to give our basics a little kick.

The shirt, previously worn slightly unbuttoned or completely open over a tank top, has recently been seen buttoned up to the top. This style, taken off of Miu Miu, has won over the fashionistas, many of whom have been seen wearing their shirts duly buttoned up during the latest fashion weeks.

However, far from taking on a schoolgirl look from another era, the fashionistas quickly started matching the buttoned collar with cozy pullovers, which resulted in original classic/sweet combinations.

A white shirt with a Claudine (Peter Pan) collar worn with a wide-necked knit, a denim shirt worn under a cut-off sweatshirt, or a plaid shirt slipped under a thin, dark grey jersey all result in deceptively sensible, highly desirable looks.

Also worth trying would be an alpine pullover over a white poplin shirt, a navy blue sweatshirt over a denim shirt, or a fisherman's sweater over a satin-finish shirt... in each case, of course, the shirts are to be buttoned up to the top...
