Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress
16 12 2010Ever since the wedding date for Prince William and the lovely commoner Kate Middleton was announced, the small world of fashion has been bubbling with the excitement of trying to guess which designer will be chosen to design the nuptial gowns of the future Princess of England.

It is now common knowledge that Miss Middleton wore a Reiss dress (which will be reissued by the label as of next month) for the official portrait shot by Mario Testino, but it is a complete mystery who will receive the honor of dressing the future wife of Prince William on April 29, 2011.
Difficult to imagine the sensible yet modern Middleton slipping into an Elizabeth Emanuel creation -- as sumptuous as it was encumbering -- as did Princess Diana before her.

Although we are pretty sure that the lucky winner will be British, this does not prevent us from lingering over the sketches submitted to WWD by the crème de la crème of designers with curiosity and child-like excitement.
Among them, there are some who attempt to mix tradition with clean lines (in order to satisfy protocol as well as flatter the svelte silhouette of the interested party), e.g. Jason Wu, Alberta Ferretti and Frida Giannini for Gucci.

Others opted for silhouettes closer to their own style than those susceptible of pleasing the crown (Karl Lagerfeld, Chris Benz, Christian Lacroix); while still others allowed their desires for girliness take over the iconic wedding dress (Valentino, Peter Copping for Nina Ricci). Finally, J. Crew decided to go completely against what was created for Diana and proposed the most ascetic design.
All that remains is to wait for Mademoiselle Middleton to make her choice - a choice that should guarantee the selected label with consequential financial gains for the next several years...
